‘The Man from Snowy River,’ is not necessarily a children’s story but I have strong and fond memories of my mother reading Banjo Patterson to us as children while we lived overseas. I also loved Jan Pienkowski‘s illustrations for his Fairy Tale collection. This illustration combines both but I’m still not happy with the colour produced by the water colour pencils.
I’m not so happy with how this one turned out. The colour is too insipid and the pencil doesn’t provide a nice water colour wash. I might rework this idea one day though.
This week I was inspired by my favourite quote, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” Aesop. I also got myself a set of watercolour pencils and I’m pretty happy with how this worked out.
I was nervous to start this challenge as I haven’t picked up a pen to draw anything since high school. I would love to learn watercolour but will start with fine tip pen and colouring pencils for now. I’ve also decided that my theme for this year will be mice, to honour the inspiration they’ve provided me in my writing.
